A total of 94 of these samples are reactive for SARS-CoV2.

The preliminary breakdown is as follows:

Corozal District – 7

Cayo District – 7

Stann Creek District – 9

Belize District – 26 (17 in San Pedro)

Orange Walk District – 45

We note that a good percentage of the positive cases are household contacts of previously identified cases and this also includes a good percentage of samples of on the ground contact tracing in Orange Walk.We also have another death to report, this is in a female who had been at KHMH for over two weeks, she was in her 50’s and is the 13th death recorded for Belize. We have 22 recovered cases to report today.Please continue to minimise your exposure in public and when doing so, do wear a mask, properly all the time.

63 year sold Natalio Wicab, from the San Felipe Village; the sister of the Telly Cruz ,who died recently from breathing problems relating to COVID-19 has also passed away today. She was also an employee of Caribbbean Chicken, where her further family members were working. Due to this manifestation, Caribbean chicken has informed the public, their plant, headquarters and retail outlets countrywide will be closed on Monday, August 24.

72 year old Iris Barillas, from Hope Creek Village in the Stann Creek district is the 5th person to die from Covid-19 related symptoms. She was in the Western Regional Hospital and was later moved to KHMH where she was intubated. Reports are that four of her family members are also COVID-19 positive.

The Belize Defense Force confirms 5 persons tested positive for COVID-19.These patients comprise a doctor and four soldiers.

We had shared some of this data earlier today but the final tally for today is as follows:

A record number of samples were processed today with, a total of 311 samples.

We identified 78 new cases with the preliminary breakdown as follows:

Stann Creek District – 1
Corozal District – 7
Cayo District – 15 (at least 8 are in Belmopan)
Belize District – 55 (30 in San Pedro)

We don’t have any recovered case to report today.

There are 3 persons intubated at KHMH.

Please continue to stay safe and do ensure that when leaving home, all necessary precautions are taken at all times.

Only with a collective effort can we flatten our curve.

A further 164 samples were processed today with the breakdown as follows – 23 samples were positive in this infographic (includes the 4 reported yesterday)

– Belize 14 (6 in San Pedro, the remaining in Belize City)

Three persons have recovered today.

There are currently 6 patients at the KHMH (3 are intubated).

One patient Died While Being Treated For a Heart Condition. He was confirmed COVID-19 positive after death. The Deceased is a 63-Year -Old Male from Orange Walk.///

**FOUR NEW CASES AND UPDATE ON PREVIOUS CASES IDENTIFIED YESTERDAY**

Further to the numbers reported last night, the further details are as follows:

– The cases in Stann Creek are all related to a previously identified case (all members of a family/same household)

– The cases reported in Belize District are in Belize City (4 related to previously identified cases, the rest are being traced for any link)

– Cases in Orange Walk (mostly in Yo Creek but cases also in Guinea Grass, San Jose Palmar, August Pine Ridge, Orange Walk Town)

– Cases in Cayo District (include Belmopan, Benque Viejo, San Jose Succotz, Bullet Tree, Duck Run and Santa Elena)

The Central Medical Laboratory is not running any batch of samples today as they are preparing samples for processing tomorrow as well as routine quality control measures.

We can also confirm that in four samples processed today using the GeneXpert template, 4 new cases are being reported (the infographic tomorrow will reflect this)

– 1 in a patient being treated for a heart condition who died while receiving treatment at a private facility last night. The diagnosis of COVID-19 was done post mortem.

– 3 cases in field officers involved in contact tracing and mapping exercises

For now, 2 patients remain intubated at KHMH and 2 others remain in the isolation area. No other region is reporting critically ill patients at this time.

This is our data for today.

A further 172 samples were processed today with 32 new cases identified.

The preliminary breakdown is as follows:

– 1 case in Belize City
– 10 cases in Corozal District (includes repatriated cases and cases in previously identified clusters)
– 21 in Orange Walk District (related to previously identified clusters in Shipyard and construction site)

We had one death – person diagnosed with SARS-CoV2.

We have 3 recovered cases.

We have 2 patients intubated and critically ill at the KHMH ICU.

As we move through the weekend, we anticipate clearing up all the backlog of samples from the Central Medical Laboratory.
